Doctors in clinical research

Research drives innovation and also provides answers to the clinical, social, economic, environmental and technological issues that influence good health.

Clinicians can actively participate research in a number of ways, not least in the use of evidence from research in clinical care.

Clinicians play a direct part in enabling clinical research to happen, by contributing as part of your day-to-day practice:

  • Identifying gaps in clinical knowledge, or issues with current clinical practice
  • Helping to develop research questions to address these
  • Giving practical advice and information to help design research trials
  • Ensuring every patient is aware of and has access to clinical trials relevant to them
  • Collecting data
  • Contributing clinical perspectives to all research activities at specialty, divisional or hospital level.
