Opportunities for clinicians in Primary and Secondary Care

Clinical academic medicine

Clinical academic careers typically combine a balance between specialist clinical work and research and teaching responsibilities.

There are opportunities for clinical academic careers in every specialty, contributing at every stage of the research process. From early biomedical research understanding disease pathways, through to drug development and personalised medicine.

Clinical academic careers

There is no single route to a career that combines clinical practice with research, so it is worth discussing the range of opportunities open to you with our Clinical Academic Leads in the first instance.

The Integrated Academic Pathway offers a structured route into academic medicine. It is flexible and offers you the opportunity to join at different stages of your career :

  • medical school
  • academic foundation programme
  • academic clinical fellowship
  • clinical lectureship
  • senior academic post

Primary Care

In Practice Fellowships are open to fully qualified General Practitioners, General Dental Practitioners and Community Dentists. Community dentists are defined as those working in the Salaried Dental Primary Care Services.
